Le Billet Doux
(The Love Letter)
by Hanah Fadrigalan
My dearest gentleman,
Must it be the twinkle in your eye,
or your sweetest smile that caught
my heart drifting in the wind.
Perchance, you are a wizard
performing some magic on my soul
and a kind thief
entering my mind without permission.
Oh! merciful heavens, I have stolen
Cupid’s arrow and shot myself
right through the heart.
Tender and generous, you are;
a gentleman so kind and caring.
Your happiness will always be dear to me.
Though miles apart, we are bounded by
the spiritual knot that only the heavens
would know how to cut; the ropes, indestructible to mankind.
What is love, but just a name, good sir, it is more than just love,
the sight of your visage carries me through the days and nights;
such a man of honor and humanity, how I dear to see you again.
But till then, I will lull myself to sleep with the thoughts of you.
Adieu, monsieur amour.
