BOSTON, MA. —- On the way to the Greek Market, Tim and I saw my Greek neighbor, George, tending his tomatoes on his front lawn. We had a small talk about the weather and then he asked us if we’d like to see his garden. Honored and excited, we agreed to pay his garden a visit. (This man has won many city awards for his excellence in gardening.)
I was amazed on how big his garden was! He’s got trees that bears different kinds of pears (drafting) and he also grows exotic plants from all over the world. It was astounding. He’s got the whole world in his backyard. Literally. He has plants and flowers from Hawaii, Greece, Egypt and other tropical places. His garden was a total Greek haven. With all the plants and vegetables they’ve got in their backyard, they will never go hungry. EVER.
Aside from this gardening hobby, he also distills his own homemade wine. He showed us his cellar room, and he’s got hundreds of wine (his oldest wine is 10 years old). He gave us various kinds of wines: Port, Blueberry and Apricot. What a nice man. All these aged wines at no cost. It was all distilled with love.
I find it amazing that even in his 80s, he can still tend a garden, go fishing with his wife, and grow drafted and exotic flowers right in his backyard. They have both achieved happiness by creating their own haven.
What an inspirational couple. I wish them both longer life and happiness.
They are simply unforgettable.
